The Wheel of Brisbane

The Wheel of Brisbane is one of the most popular attractions in Brisbane. It is located on the banks of the Brisbane River at South Brisbane and is one of the oldest and most unique Ferris wheel in Australia. The Wheel of Brisbane is a 60-metre observation wheel that provides a broad view of (you guessed it!) the City of Brisbane, Queensland. The wheel was built and completed in 2008 and is also called the Brisbane Eye. Riding the Wheel is a fun way to experience the city from a new perspective and will also give you some great photo opportunities with friends or family. Each enclosed capsule can seat up to 8 people and is specially designed to ride for comfort as every capsule is air-conditioned.

The Brisbane Eye is not the first wheel in the city overlooking the Brisbane River and the surrounding areas – you can see the Story Bridge Observation Wheel from the bottom of the river – but it’s certainly the most unique. When you enter the Wheel of Brisbane, you will find yourself in a large glass capsule with windows on all sides. The view is spectacular. It’s hard to believe that the wheel is actually located on the riverbank. Aside from the Story Bridge, you’ll also see the City Botanic Gardens. If you look carefully, you might even spot the historic St Mary’s Cathedral. With a ride capacity of 336, the Channel Seven Wheel of Brisbane can complete one ride in approximately 12 minutes. Within that timeframe, the ride stops at one point at the top of the wheel so that visitors can take in the view and listen to the audio tour explaining the Brisbane landmarks that can be seen from afar. After riding the wheel to your heart’s content, you can then visit other attractions in the area like the Kangaroo Point Cliffs Park, the Brisbane Sign, the Botanic Gardens Edward Street Gates, Wilson Outlook Reserve, and Mount Coot-Tha Summit Lookout.

Plan ahead and pick the best weather when riding the Brisbane Wheel. The best season to ride is in spring or autumn. Summer’s a good choice too since the wheel’s capsules are cooled down with air conditioning. The Brisbane Wheel is a great way to have fun and enjoy the great outdoors. The best time to ride is during the day, but the city view at night is something to behold. There are many places to eat in the area, including restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, and more. The best way to get around the area is by car or public transportation. If you’re planning to take the bus, there are several bus stops around the area with the nearest one being Montague Rd at Donkin Street (Stop 7). If you take the train, you can walk for around 3 minutes to reach your destination.

There are many restaurants and cafes that are worth a visit after a ride that serves different cuisines including the Grill’d South Bank, Mucho Mexicano, Walter’s Steakhouse and Wine Bar, and Olé Restaurant. Staying in a hotel is a good idea for those who want to visit other attractions after The Wheel of Brisbane.
