Nissan Arena Nathan, Queensland

Formerly known as the Queensland State Netball Centre, the Nissan Arena, which is located in Nathan, Queensland, is one of the most famous venues for sporting events in Australia. It is owned by Stadium Queensland under Queensland Government regulations and is operated by Netball Queensland. Designed and built by Hansen Yuncken, the construction of the arena that started in 2017 was completed in February of 2019 with a value of $44 million AUD. This 16.4-hectare arena includes the Sunken show court that has a seating capacity of 5,000 so that fans can view their favourite players to their heart’s content. In addition to the main court, it has 8 indoor hard courts, a gymnasium, a 10-lane Rekotan track encircling a rectangular playing field, and science and sports medicine facilities for the athletes. The Nissan Arena mainly holds large-scale matches, community events, and sports leagues. Some of their community programs include Futsal-Football Queensland, Old Premier League Netball, Pickleball, Premier League Volleyball, Social Netball, and Walking Netball.

Reaching the venue is easy since its location is just between Brisbane’s main arterial roads, Kessels and Mains road. There’s no need to drive much from there since compared to QSAC, the Arena is located along the road. Next to the arena is Park ’n’ Ride, Queensland’s largest multi-story parking block. There are four entry points to Nissan Arena: two on Mains Road and another two on Kessels Road. With over 600 car parks available, no wonder the venue gets 250,000 patrons every year. The Nissan Arena opens at 6 am and closes at 11 pm. Keep in mind that food and drinks from commercial outlets are not permitted inside the premises since various food outlets are already made available inside the arena.

Plan ahead a day before the game! Since commercial foods are not allowed inside the arena, why not make your own meal or snacks at home instead? You can even prepare your own beverage or bring along a jug of water to keep yourself hydrated – you’ll definitely need lots of water while watching and cheering for your go-to team. And if there are still lots of time in your hands after the game, as post-celebration (assuming your team won) or consolation (in case they lost – knock on wood), you can also visit other nearby attractions especially if you have kids in tow. You can go with other parks or attractions around the arena like the CRANK Indoor Climbing, BOUNCEinc Tingalpa, or Maisie Dixon Park. There are also several stores, cafes, shops, and a small sports centre that you and your family or friends can try.

Few notes about the Nissan Arena: The centre is not limited to just sports events. They also offer their VIP suites and community courts for hire in case, for example, a school or company want to hold special events or functions and want to celebrate it elsewhere for a change. The good thing about Nissan Arena is that they also offer accessible parking. You just have to make sure to call them up in advance for booking since the spaces are limited.
