Carindale Recreation Reserve

Carindale Recreation Reserve is a popular attraction for locals residing in the south of Brisbane. The 20.34-hectare reserve is located at 27 Cadogan Street, near the Carindale shopping centre, and features an impressive spaced-theme park that encourages kids to have fun as if they are on an actual rocket ship.

Free Wi-Fi access is available on some parts of the reserve and families and teens can enjoy the BBQ area (they have electric barbecue grills), fitness equipments, paths for walking and biking, and grassy open space available on the reserve. Visitors can also bring pets along since the park has dog off-leash areas with separate fields for large and small dogs complete with bench seats, bubblers and drinking fountains. The reserve also has shaded and open picnic areas, a basketball field (half-court), a bikeway trail through Bulimba Creek, and a tennis rebound wall. Various activities and other events are also held in the park, especially on weekends when families gather together for much-needed off-screen activities for kids. On your way to Rocket Park, you can also stop over at restaurants and other attractions like the Wynnum Mangrove Boardwalk, Kangaroo Point Cliffs Park, Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre, Minnippi Parkland, the Iceworld Olympic Ice Rinks, and Brisbane Koala Bushlands.

The reserve’s famous Rocket Park is a must if you have kids. It is a unique-themed, partially fenced playground set situated between shades of leafy trees so parents won’t worry about their kids playing under the scorching sun. Children can climb and play in the interactive rocket ship fort that produces sound effects while others can play on double swings facing each other or try out the exhilarating slides – it will surely excite active kids who love heights! Adventurous kids will surely love to take on the challenge of climbing the rope pyramid too. For imaginative play, children can ride on the small moon buggy situated on the sandy part of the playground or do roleplaying as if they’re exploring the moon. There are also moon rocks of different colours and sizes that are perfect for growing kids to hop, climb, slide, or sit on while others play pretend or just share fun stories with other kids in the park. The playground’s floor is safe enough since it’s part rubber, sand, and wood shavings but keep in mind that it’s just partially fenced so keeping a close watch on your energetic kids is recommended.

The park’s car park space is big enough so it won’t be an issue to go in late even on weekends. It’s best to bring your own food and drinks when visiting the park. There are several stores and cafes along the road to the park so getting takeaways is an option too. Good news for those who love taking photos and videos using drones as there’s a raised area near the dog park that you can stand on while operating your drone.

For those who love nature, this is the place to visit. With its many trails and scenic views, the park is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. You can also take a walk through the park and enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding areas. There are plenty of benches along the way so you can stop and relax and enjoy the view.
